Certified Athletic Therapists are best known for their quick-thinking on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries, whether on the field or in the clinic.

Athletic therapists adhere to the Sports Medicine Model of care. They treat a wide range of patients, from kids with concussions to seniors recovering from hip replacement surgery, using various manual therapies, modalities, exercise prescription and even bracing and taping. The treatment varies but the objective doesn’t: an Athletic Therapist's goal is to help clients return to their usual activities, whether that means playing competitive sports or walking to the mailbox and back.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and wellbeing. Physiotherapy helps through manual therapy, physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness. Physiotherapists get you involved in your own recovery.

Dr. Tannis Boisvert is a graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and has a bachelor of science with an honours specialization in Nutrition and Dietetics. Prior to beginning her studies, Tannis competed internationally as a downhill ski racer. She approaches every patient with a unique lens and the goal of solving the bespoke puzzle that is an individual’s health, while helping her patients understand why they’re experiencing pain and how best to prevent it in the future.

In addition to the hands-on component of her practice, Tannis incorporates patient education and at-home rehabilitation plans to make sure her patients feel good 24/7. Her appointments typically include discussing lifestyle changes, posture and nutrition, exercises for the prevention of pain, and manual therapy (whether that be adjustments, soft tissue therapy, laser, cupping or acupuncture). Patients can expect to finish a treatment with Tannis feeling centred, relaxed, and empowered to take charge of their health. Everyone’s lives and bodies are continually changing – whether that be pregnancy, a new injury or starting new health practices – and Tannis is committed to adapting care plans and treatments to meet her patients’ diverse and ever-changing needs.
